In most cases textile waste is currently disposed of in the general waste stream or incinerated, this is a growing problem that I’m attempting to tackle. I have come up with a design solution that will foster a circular economy, which will focus on reimagining and designing, mainly from waste material so it can go back into the income stream.

One of the 6 principles of a circular economy is collaboration and in this instance I have collaborated with Orange box, an office furniture company that are researching solutions to make their office furniture production target a circular economy, however they are still creating masses of waste each day, 50 tonnes a week go into the incinerator, they have no idea how to dispose of it in a way that doesn’t impact the environment.

Orange box’s fabrics are quite conservative and plain, They’re allowing me to get my hands onto all this waste fabric that id never consider using. I’ve come up with new innovative design ideas that they would not normally consider for their furniture, for example potentially crossing over processes combining stitch and print in bright botanical patterns. This has taught me to be responsible graduate designer, I will be aware of the problem which will have benefits socially and environmentally In the future. This will benefit the environment massively, as it stops resource depletion which is the consumption of resources faster than it can be replenished.
